This site gives a student of the sport of thoroughbred horse racing a chance to look through the most important and prestigious races that the sport offers. Part and parcel with describing the most classic races comes descriptions of the most classic horses that have won those races, complete with career highlights. One of the best features of this site is that there is a nice gallery of photos of champion thoroughbreds that can be used at no charge by any fan who wants to use them, provided the use is non-commercial. There is also an interesting collection of some of the most famous horses winning the aforementioned classic races. For instance there are videos of Secretariat winning the 1973 Kentucky Derby in still-standing stakes record time, as well as the 1973 Preakness, a race that astounded all and is also remembered because of a clock malfunction that denied the great Triple Crown winner the official stakes record. Descriptions of such races as the Travers Stakes, Whitney, Vosburgh, and even the Breeders' Cup Classic are given, along with many others, that will provide a horse racing fan with a thorough background in the landscape of this exciting sport.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of horse racing is watching these beautiful animals doing what they do best.. Horses have such beautiful gaits. The way they carry themselves when their strides are fully extended is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. There are four basic colors in the horse racing world: brown horses, bay horses, roan horses and black horses. Besides the color of the horse, it can also have specific markings. Common horse markings are known as socks (markings on the horse's lower legs), star (marking on the center of the race horse's head) and various other markings.
You'll find free horse racing video on horses competing in the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown taking place at Pimlico Racetrack each year two weeks after the Kentucky Derby. You'll find free horse racing pictures and great horse racing video on some of the greatest champion race horses of all time in the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown that following three weeks after the Preakness Stakes. Although the Kentucky Derby is the premier horse racing event, it is the Belmont Stakes that decides if there will be a Triple Crown winner. (A Triple Crown winner is a horse that has won all three major horse racing events for that calendar year including the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, the Preakness at Pimlico Race Course, and the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.)
